Canen Border Collies

Canen Kite and Canen Celt

Veronica Wilson owns two Canens – here's what she has to say about them.

Canen Kite

"Canen Kite (known as Kite) is a very feminine black and white bitch. She was born on 5th October 2002. Her sire is Sadghyl Pip and her dam is Sian.

Here's a rare treat since Kite is extremely camera shy: a photo of her competing in agility (photo by www.studiofx.co.uk)

I had already contacted Shirley about having a pup when a severe storm blew our caravan over on the Lleyn Peninsula one day in November. The caravan had to be sorted out so it was an ideal opportunity to visit Shirley. So on yet another wild day I set off for Shirley's house in the hills.

I was really impressed with the lovely temperament of the various dogs who greeted me. First I met the lovely Dot. She reminded me very much of my dog Nell. Then I met Sian and her pups who were then 4 weeks old. I had a choice of 3 black and white bitches out of Sian's litter and it was a very difficult choice as they looked so alike. I finally chose Kite and made arrangements to pick her up on 9th December and take her back home to Lincolnshire.

Kite was the most beautiful puppy and has now grown into a very elegant bitch. She's nearly 8 years old now, has reached Grade 5 in Agility and is well on her way to earning her Agility Warrant (Gold) – she already has bronze and silver. She is a very consistent dog and reached the Laser Pairs Final in 2009 along with partner, BBs Canen Zaar, owned by Chris Williamson. She was also in the Team Dash Final and the Pedigree Team Final in 2008 (where her team came 2nd)."

Perhaps Kite's not as shy as we thought - here are two more photos of her in action (photo by www.equipics.co.uk)

Canen Celt

"Celt is my new Canen puppy – a stunning black and white like Kite. His sire is Wallace and his dam is Lady. He looks very like his dad as I'm sure you will agree. I hope to do agility with him in the future and I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun with him. He's very intelligent and very good at using his initiative! He's also very fond of tennis balls and tuggies which will help with his training."
