Canen Border Collies

Glynn, Griff, Canen Gyl and Babe

Dot Blair is a great lover of Canen collies and tells the story of her dogs (and a little of her own story) below.

Glynn

Glynn was born 13/11/1995 and sadly passed away on 28/02/2004. He was my first Canen collie and the great love of my life. Buying Glynn was also the start of a great, and hopefully lifelong friendship, with Shirley and her family.

Glynn was a truly handsome dog (and boy did he know it !!). His great passion was playing football - he was a fantastic header of the ball, but the only problem was that he never wanted to stop. Emlyn from Anglesey wanted to buy him from me and put him in his show as a goalkeeper, but a king's ransom couldn't have persuaded me to let him go.

When he died suddenly I thought my heart would break and never mend. I miss him dreadfully.

Griff

Griff was born on 06/02/1997 and sadly passed away in 2009. After falling so in love with Glynn I bought Griff two years later. He was actually Glynn's nephew, out of Tissy (Glynn's litter sister). What a guy!! He had the sweetest nature and a beautiful curly coat. He wasn't as obsessively active as Glynn was but he was totally devoted to me – a real mummy's boy. I adored him.

Canen Gyl

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the loss of Canen Gyl – she passed away on Monday 23rd November 2009 having coped with vestibula syndrome for the last year.

I was very privileged to be given Gyl by Shirley in April 2005. She came to me as a companion for Griff (the mummy's boy above). Griff also sadly passed on earlier this year – they were really good pals, a real pair of happy pensioners.

I grew to truly love Gyl. She was a very special lady and although she has gone she will live in my heart forever. To anyone out there who has one of her descendants all I can say is you are very fortunate people and please feel free to contact me anytime though Shirley. In 2007, Gyl's daughter, Canen Spring from Holland, came over with her owner Jaap to see Shirley. They also came to see Gyl. It was lovely to see mother and daughter together and Gyl really seemed to enjoy showing off her new home and lifestyle. I'd love more news of her decendants.

The only thing that makes Gyl's loss bearable is that after the loss of Griff, Shirley let me offer a home to Babe (aka Belle) a very beautiful tri colour eight year old. The best thing for me is that this lovely girl is Gyl's great grandaughter!! So I will have a constant reminder of her, as if I needed it!!

If anyone out there has ever had doubts about taking on an older dog believe me it's one of the most rewarding things you could do. The pain of their loss is a small price to pay for the joy they bring you while you are together.

I hope you will enjoy the pics of my wonderful old girl.

Well, Dot was resting, Gyl was just keeping her company.

Babe (aka Belle)

Shirley gave me Belle when Griff passed away. She's Gyl's great grandaughter and she's a beauty as you can see from her photos.
